Ingredients For A Traditional Trifle
To make a traditional trifle you will need:
– Sponge or pound cake
– Jelly cubes (jello)
– Custard powder
– Whipping cream or double cream
– Fresh fruit such as strawberries and raspberries
How To Make A Tennis Biscuits Trifle
Tennis biscuits are an iconic South African biscuit. Using these biscuits instead of sponge gives the trifle a unique twist on the traditional recipe. Here’s how to make it:
1. Start by making the jelly according to packet instructions in a bowl and set aside until cool but not fully set yet – this should take about 15 minutes. Once cooled add some diced fresh fruit such as strawberries or raspberries into the mixture if desired and then pour into your serving dish/tray so that it forms an even layer at the bottom of your dish/tray – this will be your first layer in your trifle. Set aside while you prepare other elements for your trifle.
2 . In another bowl mix together custard powder with milk according to packet instructions – if using ready made custard just warm up slightly before use – then pour onto top of jello layer already created in step one above forming another thin even layer which should look like custard when complete – this will be your second layer in your triflle – again set aside while you prepare other elements for yoru triffle
3 . Take tennis biscuits (or any other kind if preferred) placing each row next to each other neatly over top of the two layers already created forming what looks like ‘rows’ on top off those two layers – this will obviously form part three once we have added our final topping later on down below here 4 . Pour whipping cream over entire contents ensuring all tennis biscuit rows have been evenly covered forming what now looks like fluffy white clouds across everything – leave out any remaining pieces of diced fruits still left at bottom & allow everything time to sit & settle overnight best results are achieved when done so however can serve immediately also 5 . Finally just before serving cut through centre portion with sharp knife cutting through all four sections simultaneously creating eight squares per plate leaving us with our finished product – enjoy !
