This dish is hearty and flavorful, with subtle hints of spices that give it an extra kick. In this article we’ll explore how to make mealie rice the Indian way so that you can enjoy all its flavors at home!
Ingredients For Mealie Rice Indian Style
In order to make this delicious mealie rice recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
• 2 cups of Maize Meal/Mealies/Corn Flour
• 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
• ½ teaspoon salt (or more or less as desired)
• 4 tablespoons vegetable oil (any kind)
• 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
• 1 inch ginger root, grated •1 small onion, diced •½ cup frozen peas or fresh green beans (optional) •1 cup water
Instructions
1. Begin by heating up the oil in a pot on medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they are lightly browned. Then add in the garlic and ginger root along with some salt; continue sautéeing for about two minutes before adding in your maize meal/mealies/corn flour mixture. Stir everything together until combined evenly over low-medium heat. If needed add additional oil to keep things from sticking too much during this process!
2. Once everything is combined well then add one cup of water into the pot plus any additional seasonings like turmeric powder if desired – mix throughly again before allowing it to come up to a boil and reduce down until thickened slightly (this should take around 5-7 minutes). Keep stirring occasionally throughout cooking time so nothing sticks or burns on bottom of pan!
3. Finally once your mealie mixture has thickened somewhat turn off flame and add frozen peas or fresh green beans if using them; stir these through quickly just until heated through but not mushy– serve hot either alone or alongside other dishes such as grilled meats & vegetables for an even heartier feast! Enjoy 🙂
